The Titanic Plan is masterful collection of historical events and Icons from the early 1900's . Readers may struggle through the early part of this book, and wonder, like I did, where Michael was going with this storyline. Once you get by the original development of "The Plan" I was sucked in. The Titanic itself was mentioned once through about 80% of the book, and then it seemed it was as an afterthought just telling about some of J. P. Morgan's investments... I was beginning to think the title was just representative of the size of "The Plan" and not the passenger liner. If that was the case, the cover wouldn't have made much sense... So, it was like...Gotcha...when the appearance of Titanic became an important part of the story. I'm not going to point this review toward a total revelation of the story, but will just add that Michael Bockman definitely did his research on the "Icons" of the business world to give you this sense of reality. I enjoyed this book, but only after getting into the meat of it. Don't give up on it too early.Product details

The Titanic Plan Michael Bockman Ron Freeman 9781621546283 Books Reviews
Larger than life, actually, as the times allowed a few men to hold sway over a vast majority of the country's assets and remain in power for years. An excellently crafted "it could have been like this" tale, interwoven with believable main and sub-characters. Kudos to the two authors for digging deep into US history to create such an action-packed novel!
Since I love historical novels, I have been an avid reader of many very good ones. Obviously, I consider this one to be excellent. When I read any book containing historical facts I am drawn to my computer to check out those facts ~ just to make sure the author has done his/her research in depth. You can read "THE TITANIC PLAN" with the assurance that Michael Bockman has done an enormous amount of research for this book while weaving together the stories of the common man with the stories of the lives of men who have been called the men who built America" ~ the capitalists. I hope you will find this book an enjoyable and educational read. I surely did.
It was offered free for just a few days and I hit upon it. I will be sending some money to the writer.
If you like historical fiction then you'll enjoy this one. Briefly touches on the historical doomed Titanic adventure. Rather the title relates to a plan of titanic proportions to make the richest men even richer. Had the Plan been carried out, it would have been huge and changed the course of our understanding of commerce in the US. You will enjoy getting to know the historical characters of the time and feel better connected to that time period. Interestingly, the writer attempts to make parallels between that time and today, a 100 years later. We wonder how much we have done not to allow history to repeat itself. Its also NOT full of fluff to make it more commercialized but rather just a well thought-out intertwining story of what could have been.
A free book I got recently and just finished. One of my favorite genres is historical fiction. This is pretty good as such genres go.
It tells the fictional story of Archie Butt, military aide to two presidents.
The story weaves a pretty good tale of financial manipulation by the robber barons of the era, and Butt's attempt to figure out what is going on as he pursues the story.
I have to admit that the conspiracy as it is finally exposed did not seem like all that much of a conspiracy so much as a pipe dream. A bunch of rich guys are going to try and take over the US economy by streamlining the logistics of transporting goods. It just did not seem like such an awful thing to me. I think that aspect of the story badly needed some help.
In the end, Butt dies heroically on the Titanic. The real life Butt also died on the Titanic. It is doubtful that the fanciful accounts of his last few hours published by various papers of the time accurately reflect anything that actually happened.
The story brings a lot of historical characters together - wealthy socialites such as the Astors, JP Morgan, and Guggenheim; political figures like Taft and Teddy Roosevelt; and figures from the darker side of America of the time like Bill Haywood. Most of this is pretty effective as stories go.
There are a lot of twists and turns, and many red herrings along the way. A number of dead ends as well.
I read this novel twice in a row. There were many characters that at first, I thought were fictional. They are not as renowned as perhaps the Astors or JP Morgan. But once I did my research, I found out that these characters were REAL...they played such an important part in the financial development of that era. So I just had to read it again to appreciate the 'minor' characters' contributions. The majority of this story takes place within the business world of Morgan, Astor, Guggenheim and the presidency of Taft & Roosevelt. Only the last few chapters involve the Titanic. So don't think it is a repeat of what you know. I learned so much about the financial/business aspect (crooked as now) in those days. I loved the way Bockman interwove his characters and culminated on the high seas for the fateful night aboard the Titanic. He also finishes the book with follow-ups on those mentioned in the book who survived or did not survive the Titanic. This book is the best historical novel I've ever read; better than "Team of Rivals" by Doris Kearns Goodwin and that's saying a lot~!!! Although this ebook is free, I urge everyone who purchases it to give a donation (info given within reading material). The research poured into a book like this and the years sacrificed (helping another's dream come true) are enormous.
